Closing out the decade at Cap City

That’s a dramatic way of saying I’ll be headlining Cap City Comedy Club Thursday, December 26 to Saturday December 28. One show Thursday, two shows Friday and Saturday. Doing shows at Cap is always fun and getting 5 shows to stretch out and get a little loopy is a real joy.
After a few toe-dips, I started doing stand-up regularly in 2009. What many people will refer to as the aughts or the 2010’s, true comedy nerds call “Mac’s decade of laffs”. Come close out “Mac’s decade of laffs” (true comedy heads never abbreviate or shorten it) along with a couple of my favorite people, the hilarious Enzo Priesnitz & Brett VerVoort. Tickets here.
Also, if you can guess what visually inspired the graphic above, you are the God Nerd and your ascension to the golden halls of Valhalla is assured.
Muppet Babies Brainstorm
After STAG Comedy’s last live show in 2015, friendly comedian Carlos LaRotta said he was itching for a vid to direct. I threw him some old scripts and he picked out Muppet Babies Brainstorm. I actually filmed an earlier version of MBB for my first STAG Comedy show back in 2009, but was never satisfied with finished product. So Carlos and I re-wrote it and then 4 years later actually made it, and here it is!
Stay tuned through the credits, there’s a joke at the end, but also because the credits have the names of a lot of very cool and talented people that lent their time and energy to making a very dumb thing. And I think that (dramatic pause) is beautiful.
The Banter Show is back (and then gone again)

For one night only, the Banter Show returns to the Velveeta Room!
Last February’s show ended Banter’s run at the Velv, as Ximena and I prepared for our baby (Baby update: baby is great). But when Pat Dean at the Velveeta Room asked us if we wanted to do a one-off show to close out the year, we said of course (after checking with our baby sitter). To mark the occasion we also have an outstanding line-up, which you can see here.
Come check out some Hawt Talk, one more time, Friday, December 6th, 11pm at the World Famous* Velveeta Room. TICKETS
*Not really.
Scratch City
I never pass up an opportunity to show just how bad at pool I am. Even visually. People report that seeing me play just doesn’t look right. Like a horse wearing glasses. So when Taylor Dowdy asked me to match sticks against my friend and yours Aaron Brooks for a pilot/proof of concept comedy & pool series, you know I was on board. Plus, I got to hear my unborn (at the time) child get insulted. Wow. What a treat for everyone.
David McQuary’s Fluoride
David McQuary and I started stand-up around the same time. I’ve come to know him as this hyperactive comedic mind, always working on a new joke, forever tweaking old stuff, and just plain hilarious. Has his hyperspeed comedy brain ruined his life? Oh absolutely. He’s one bad Taco Bell experience away from shattering into a million pieces. But it also means that he has the dedication to create, write and animate his own cartoon, Fluoride. I’m the voice of Kroger, a lumpy, loudmouth (which, wow, what a way to find out what David thinks of me) dolphin. As I write this, four episodes are available and more are on the way. David is genuine comedic gem and getting new content from him is a big win for humanity.
(more…)Knuck Deep rides off into the sunset

Reposted from Six Shooter’s Facebook page:
Big news! The July 10th Six Shooter will be the last one hosted by Knuck Deep. It seems their touring schedule is too demanding for them to continue hosting a monthly comedy show. We assure you this has nothing to do with the ongoing legal case, the State of Texas vs. Knuck Deep.
Starting in August, Six Shooter will undergo a slight format change and welcome new host Mac Blake The show will still be free, still be at Barrel O’Fun and will still feature six of Austin’s funniest comedians. So come on out July 10th and say good-bye to Knuck Deep and then stop by August 8th to see Six Shooter 2.0.
In completely unrelated news, Aaron Brooks is moving. It’s so unrelated I’m not even sure why I mentioned it.
The final Six Shooter before Aaron moves is July 10th at Barrel O’Fun. Complete line-up and more details here.
The Year in Review Show 2018 – Live Show Recording

Here’s the audio from last December’s Year in Review show featuring an impressive array of Austin stand-up comedians The sound quality is lacking a little bit, but hey it’s free, y’know? If you’re brave enough to relive yet another miserable year, give it a listen.
Still unsure if it’s worth a download? Here’s a sample:
Baby break
My wife and I are expecting a baby. Did you know that? I mentioned it on instagram so I just assumed everyone knows. Well, we are. Due date is mid March. We’re excited and nervous and every other emotion your favorite movie or television character has displayed in the same situation.
I’m mentioning it here so the legion of Mac-Maniacs know that I’ll be taking a break from performing and generally scaling back my comedy commitments. The final Banter Show will be February 15th. The final Waterbed will be March 2nd. Six Shooter is taking a couple months off after our March 13th show and will return in June. That doesn’t mean I’ll be back to comedy full time in June. I want time to just be a dad and a husband, unchained from the cycle of microphone jokes. When I feel the itch to get back on stage, I’ll let you know, but I don’t want to put a timer on it
If you want to see me do my awkward, loud thing before I disappear forever, check my calendar and come to a show (I’ll be adding a San Antonio date soon). Austin: If you want to see me do a full stand-up set, your last chance for a while is this Wednesday at Cap City.
The Year in Review Show 2018
It’s time for the 6th annual Year in Review show. Come watch over 50 of Austin’s funniest recap, roast, and exorcise 2018 with short Weekend Update-style jokes. All proceeds benefit the Texas Advocacy Project.
This show tends to sell out so here’s a hot tip, buy tickets ahead of time here. You also save $3 off the day-of price at the door. Here’s another hot tip, don’t yell at me because I won’t let you save a ticket for a friend who hasn’t shown up yet even though there’s a line of 30+ people who have shown up and are also waiting to see if they can get in (they all did) and then keep badgering me until – oh great your friend showed up and is now also being a jerk to me – until I let you and your friend in for free AT THIS SHOW THAT BENEFITS A NON-PROFIT because at some point I need to get into show mode and not have negative energy being launched at me. So yeah… hot tips.
But it’s going to be an awesome time. Seriously one of Austin’s best comedy shows. Don’t miss it!
